GTKRC (themes)

Artwork
Description:

Well, I think there are a lot of new themers who have
trouble understanding gtkrc and think that the widget
factory is some magical app that once you have that
installed and you know how to use it theming becomes
very easy.

So this group I thought I'd start because I know there
are a lot of experienced themers here with a lot of
knowledge and a lot of new themers which have a lot
of questions.

This would be the place to discuss possible bugs
and fixes and ideas and such.

I think we need a place like this because:
"No problem should ever have to be solved twice."

Join if you have any knowledge in gtkrc or are interested
in starting making themes and contributing to this
site!

 GTK2 Animation?

 by cb2k on: Mar 22 2009

Score 50%

Anybody know anything about gtk2 and animation?

Looking for something a bit more dynamic than the usual mouse/rollover effect...

Some of the progress bars have that animated candy stripe effect.

Does X11/Gtk2 support any other animated effects like animated gif's?

 Bold fonts on list header?

by JohnnyJupiter on: Mar 27 2009

Score 50%

hey guys,

is it possible to make the title-fonts of a list bold, while the list-fonts stay normal?
like in a file-browser, on top of the list you have "name" "type" "size" etc...
those i want bold, it would look immediately more professional, like in KDE4, qt4 has that and it looks awesome...

i tried stuff with "GtkList*" but it applies bold-ness to all list-fonts...

can somebody give me a hint please?
thx in advance

on some engines, you can change the listview header style... In banshee, these headers are banshee's ones... maybe there's an answer...

style "treeview_header"
{
font_name = "Bold"
}

widget_class "*.<GtkTreeView>.<GtkButton>" style "treeview_header"
widget_class "*.<GtkCTree>.<GtkButton>" style "treeview_header"
widget_class "*.<GtkList>.<GtkButton>" style "treeview_header"
widget_class "*.<GtkCList>.<GtkButton>" style "treeview_header"

Strangely it works with engines, colors, but not with the fonts...

Hi, thanks for your answer!
actually, in the meantime i found a gtk-engine which works very beautifully:
"aurora"
bold list-headers, beautiful buttons, etc..and it looks professional :)
i made a new theme based on that engine...

thx again

 Ugly App's

 by cb2k on: Jun 16 2009

Score 50%

Open office is hideous and not obeying the sliders don't conform to all the states they do in every other app so
I reckon it must have it's own rc file... The OOo Menus are bad I mean really bad...

I don't use evolution Does Anybody?
Is it worth it?
Going by what the general story seems to be it'll have it's own awkward oddities can't be worse than the open office menu's can it?.

Pretty much everything else seems ok so far...

iF thERE ARE any gtk gurus out there I could do with a little enlightenment on how to give those the makeover they need.

Damn back to the Gnome Doc's again why do they never just do them in normal in stead of Geek...

 Bespin Tabs

Does anybody here know if there is a way
to make the tabs in gtk the way they are in bespin???

not just the tab panes, but the whole area above
the notebook.... like in bespin.

I would be most grateful.

Yeah. It is possible, and most themes should implement that.

Anyway, just learn how to define fonts and font settings in gtk (very easy but I don't recall at this time - similar to css definitions) And add them to the tabs group in your gtkrc code.

The links are above.

Hehe, bespin is a theme for kde4/qt4.

It has very cool looking tabs and other
widgets, yeah, screenshot needed indeed.

here:

I don't think this is possible but, anyways....

how are you doing btw?

Hmm, you came back from the dark side ?? This isn't possible with gtk cause the widgets aren't location aware, so you can't specify which tab is the first and which is last. This will be resolved in gtk 3.x with the new css engine btw.

hehe, nope :D still on the dark side, tho, circumstances
force me to use some gtk apps :(

Ic, I'll guess I'll have to wait for gtk3 then.

thx for heads up!

If tou are a beginner, i 'm sure that this app : http://gnomecc.sourceforge.net/ should be perfect.
All that you'll configure by this way is saved as a gtkrc in ~.gtkrc2.0-gnome-color-chooser.
there are some settings you'll need, but have some fun with gnome color chooser before. i'll answer to your questions after.
this app is very easy to use and to install.
it is include in ubuntu official repositories, and maybe other distros.
