 Windows?? No!! Ubuntu forever

Hi together,

I also switched away from Windows a little more than two Years now. I am with Ubuntu an I love it and I will never switch back to Windows!!!!

Ubuntu is so customizable and so stable.... why using Windows further?

And as I swa, the real Windows Vista and Windows7-Feeling is also possible in Ubuntu. I am just on finishing up my original Windows-icons and then will go on to create something completely different. Something like Suse and another thing that I have just started, because I loved so many Icons I found for it.

Then I found out, that this group seems to be the biggest one here. And so many friends of mine are here in this group.

Great..... jjjjjiiiiipppeee, let's make Gates and Microsoft dy out!!!
My spirit is: Gates & Windows=Game over!!

Greetings
Karmicbastler

Of course it's possible. Microsoft pretty much stole most of the eyecandy from compiz features list and put it in Windows 7.

first let me say sorry for my dobbble-posting. This was an error of my Browser Opera during an update. It didn't send off the message first, so I pressed my mouse again and all of a sudden, a had a dobble-posting. Sorry for this!!

Then I wanted to say, that I love Lucid so mauch, that I will never go away from it. It gives so much freedom and the new color of Lucid is really pretty (violett). the times of the brown Ubuntu are over it seems. Ubuntu has becomne younger and more fresh in look.

I love it. OPnly the new X-Splash is not so much mine. I have put up a nicer Wallpaper (also with violett), but more modern and more gentle.

I don't know, why so many users keep their Windows on their machines. I would say: dropp it and come over to Ubuntu!!!

Ubuntu forever!!!

Greetings

 Short essay

I hate Microsoft, it's a dirty, greedy company that makes you pay £50 every 5 years for a new OS, when they could just keep updating it free of charge, or charge a small fee for every big update. C'mon Microsoft! You're rich enough already!

I would be quite happy to stay with XP for a long time to come, but Microsoft will be ending support for XP in a few years, which practically forces you to upgrade, which means more money for Microsoft. Not only that, but Microsoft are now making games deliberately incompatible with XP, forcing gamers to upgrade. When I read this up, it sickened me, hence I am migrating to Linux forever.

But of course, I can't fully migrate to Linux, because I am the owner of a team on a windows game that just happens to work very poorly under WINE, which forces me to use Windows, no matter how much I hate it. :(

Windows sucks. As soon as WINE works better with that game, I will dump Windows FOREVER.
Now that I'll look forward to. But for now I just want to have a little moan about Windows 7.

Windows 7 was released in 2008 (I think) and since then all of my friends have been telling me it's “99999999x” times better than Vista and XP... Well it isn't, and I'm going to tell you why.

From what I can see, there is no difference between Vista and 7 apart from the new taskbar, which is pretty similar to Vista's as well, just taller and more transparent. Apart from that, Windows 7 is Déjà vu all round. Same window style, same programs, same startup sound and still uses a crapload of resources and memory. So don't believe Microsoft when they say that your computer will run much more efficiently and faster with Windows 7; It won't, or at least it won't without a quad-core gaming system with a hard drive for RAM.

Windows 7 is incompatible with almost all of the software I would use on XP today... Sadly including games. And Windows XP Mode is useless to me, because I can't play games on a virtual machine, due to the graphics and memory limitations.

Okay, I now have writer's block so I'm going to finish up here. I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Any opinions? :D

I disagree with you on Microsoft making more money by forcing their users to upgrade. That could happen but there's another possibility. XP users could get pissed at all the upgrades and refuse to buy yet another version of Windows. Then hopefully they'll switch to a Unix-ism.

But other than that you're pretty much right. Game developers really need to start releasing games on Linux. I don't see why they don't. It's easier to program on Linux. It's the fact that Linux users still buy the Windows release of a program because they either have a windows computer, a virtual machine, or another partition. I don't have any of those things. I'm not going to reward a company too lazy to release their software for only Windows.

Well, games are one of the bigest factors of Windows popularity. I am sure Microsoft is doing EVERYTHING not to loose on that.

I am occasionally playing Neverwinter Nights, natively, of course, on my Ubuntu system. BioWare developed that game for all three major PC platforms: Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac OS. Recently, they published another great RPG coputer game, Dragon Age: Origins, but this time, only for Windows.
I remember I was hanging around on BioWare forums when the game was announced and not yet released. There was a LOT of people asking about a Linux version of the game. They were saying it was impossible, because they were using Direct3D graphics, which is not supported on GNU/Linux. But then somebody noticed the fact that they were announcing a PS3 version of the game, and that PS3 doesn't use Direct3D graphics libs, but OpenGL, just like GNU/Linux does. In this case, a port from PS3 to Linux shouldn't be too difficult for the developers, with the PS3 port they were already half way there... But of course, they promtedly locked that thread, with no explaination... Then there were other attempts to push forward this matter, but every time somebody mentioned the fact that there already is an OpenGL version of the game, for PS3, which could be easily ported on Linux, they would lock the thread, with no explaination. Then people started to accuse them for censorship, and they locked the threads, with no explaination.
This looks almost like a classic mafia racket game. Is Microsoft the Cosa nostra of the software world? Or is the mob protecting Microsoft? Or what?

Anyway, I am sure that a lot more of people would switch to GNU/Linux, if all the games actually working on Windows would work also on Linux. And I am sure Microsoft is sure about that, too.

yeah. i play some windows games in wine, but lots of new ones don't work well, so i end up using my xp. if popular, new games worked in linux, then there would be no reason to keep windows. linux owns windows at everything but games, and if it had the games working right (even though there are great free games) then people would realize that linux PWNS faildows, and switch.

:-)
