Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

 dolphin tabs problem

by linuxfever on: Dec 10 2012

Score 50%

Hi Thomas,

There seems to be a problem with the spacing of the tabs when two or more are open. In particular, a big gap appears between the first tab and the left-most side of the tab-bar. To see what I mean just open dolphin and create two tabs.

I believe it is a bespin related problem, as it does not occur for example with oxygen.

Running latest revision and kde 4.9.4. Let me know if you need more information.

Is it, because the tabs are centered?
(What happens, if you make more tabs?)

Hmm, you are right, I had not noticed that. If I open more tabs, then the gap gradually disappears.

Is there any setting where I can disable the centring of the tabs? Thanks

should not happen anyway, because dolphin is kind of a "document" tab (like browsers) but apparently the tabbar does not provide that hint.

There's no setting, but it's just a stylehint (so just unconditionally returning the left hint is not very hard)

Yupp, i "fix" the tabbar mode during polishment.
This should however maybe reported as (minor) but in dolphin (because documentMode is probably what they want in general)

 Impossible to report bug

by beojan on: Dec 14 2012

Score 50%

For some reason, it appears to be impossible to report a bug in bespin's bug tracker on sourceforge.

The bug itself is that in KMail(2), the text on all widgets, including toolbar buttons, appears at the very bottom of the widget rather than centered vertically.

I upgraded to the new sf.net backend.
Maybe that killed the reporting permission settings.
Were you logged in when trying so?

-- reg. bug: never seen such (but haven't used kmail for quite a while)
Special font invoked?
Can you drop me a screenshot?

Yes, I was logged in.
I am, interestingly enough, able to create a topic in the forum which I have done.

sf.net should be fixed.

BOT:
"interesting" - anything special about kmail (bound preset, "--stylesheet" parameter for fonts etc.) on your side?

What happens if you add

FontOffset=0
FontExtent=0

to ~/.config/Bespin/Style.conf, [Style] section?

Adding those lines appears to have fixed it.

However, there were no special settings for KMail, so it is strange that only KMail was affected.

Can you please try which one exactly? (coment them with '#')

There's a problem with the font metric calculation - I guess you'll somewhere have special font settings in kmail (eg. for the message view etc.)

Ideally, please try which font (some Script?) causes this (and where it's set) and share that knowledge.
Thanks

It's FontOffset that fixed it

It's not because of special font settings in KMail, since the error also appears in toolbar buttons.

The font I'm using is TeX Gyre Heros

This font also has problems with the ktitlewidget hack, again because of font metric calculation issues. I "fixed" that by commenting out the code that changes the font size there.

 Dophin details view mode

by linuxfever on: Dec 26 2012

Score 50%

Hello again and happy Xmas,

There seems to be a small bug in dolphin when using details view mode. Clicking on the small arrow to expand the contents of a folder does not work. To make it work, you have to click on the blank area to the left of the arrow, which is strange.

Using latest revision 1638.

"worksforme", can you please mail me your ~/.config/Bespin/Style.conf?

Is the depth of the tree somehow important?
Can you define the working area more precisely (the arrow on the first layer is right aligned, so it does not work on it's outer right edge)

I think I understand now what you mean by the right-alignment of the first layer. Wouldn't the right thing though be to click on the arrow and expand the view regardless of the alignment of the first layer?

That's a pure visual thing - i don't have any control on the active area.
Just didn't want it to be too far away from the text (due to the absence of the hinting lines)

I could however see the reason of the issue.
Try "zooming out" icons (ctrl+-) and see what happens ;-)
The active area is obviously padded in relation to the icon size (height)

Gonna try what works best (growing triangle, moving it away etc.)

 Show the current preset

by lionhater on: Dec 27 2012

Score 50%

Many thanks for a very fine software, a great enhancement for a Qt-only environment as it's the only theme choser here (qtconfig-qt4 being unable to chose presets).

It would help though if the bespin config app shows the current preset/theme.

 Re: Show the current preset

Score 50%

There's nothing such as a "current preset"

The presets just load values from a present setting, ie. alter the various options automatically.

I could store what preset was loaded last, but that wouldn't necessarily reflect the current look at all.

You can after loading the preset walk around and alter the config options individually, even by a texteditor or through the commandline, try "bespin help" for more info.

So the next step would be to match the settings of the last loaded preset against the current settings, what would eg. already fail if you altered the minum button height or similar "minor" settings.

Sorry for the long delay of the reply.

None.
If i'll do in a Qt5 style (reg. time and also QWidget/QML gravity), it'll capture some elements of the present bespin, but change several other.

New Qt, new look ;-)

Sorry, i was sure i had responded on sf.net before.

Error installing on kubuntu 12.10-KDE 4.10

I'm trying to install using CMAKE, following your instructions but I'm getting:
`CMake Error at blib/CMakeLists.txt:45 (install):
install TARGETS given no LIBRARY DESTINATION for shared library target "QtBespin".`

when running: `ccmake ../`

Any tips?

What's the output of "kde4-config --prefix"?

in doubt, run
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release ..

from the build dir. (this just picks /usr as install path)

you likely just lack some dev packages (x11-dev, qt-dev, kdelibs-dev and kdebase-workspace-dev)

Notice that you seem to have kde installed (kde4-config is present) but the cmake modules are not present.
Without the kdeworkspace development packages, none of the KDE parts will be build (esp. the kwin decoration - nor the xbar plasmoid)
