Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

 Buttons in Window decoration do not work

 by cptG on: Aug 3 2011

Score 50%

Bespin window decoration buttons do not work - they visually react to button presses but the window is neither minimized/maximized or closed. I tried the package provided by my distro and also compiled and installed from SVN - no difference.
Using KDE 4.7 rc2 and Qt4.8 beta1

I had many issues with kwin decorations on Qt 4.8b1 and that's why I downgraded to 4.7.x

just to be sure - you're using kwin and NOT compiz + kwin-decorator?

Otherwise there's probably a change in the Qt behaviour (i remotely recall some rumble about this) in mapToGlobal()

please edit kwin/button.cpp:229/230
->
const bool under_mouse = underMouse();
in doubt even try
const bool under_mouse = true;

this however will change behaviour and you can NO MORE ESCAPE from eg. close button clicks by dragging away the pointer!

No, no compiz. The real KWin :)
It does indeed seem to be an issue with mapToGlobal - in a single-screen setup everything works if the window's coordinates are at global (0,0). As soon as I move the window the buttons do not work anymore. In my dual-screen-setup it only works on the primary (left) screen ;)
I'll try your suggestion and let you know if it worked.

I tried your workaraound and it works, but what also works is the following (you don't need mapToGlobal, since QMouseEvent gives you cursor coordinates in local coordinate-sytem):

Quote:
const bool under_mouse = Factory::isCompiz() ? underMouse() :
geometry().translated(-geometry().topLeft()).contains(event->pos());

yes, indeed. this works ... again ;-)
(i recall it was somehow broken and the event reported some junk - here at least - when the button grabbed the pointer and the cursor was outside.

Though mapToGlobal _is_ broken in 4.8 beta (check k-c-d mailing list) i've changed the code to use the now working more strainghtforward routine.

Thanks for the hints (both, broken and fix)

Glad I could help.
I've not (yet) subscribed to any kde-devel mailinglist, so I did miss the fact that there is a known problem with mapToGlobal in Qt4.8b1 - I also found nothing in Qt's bugtracker.
You don't happen to have a link to the relevant thread lying around? I would be interestedin reading it but haven't yet found anything in the archives of kde-devel.

Thanks,
Thomas

There's even a claim for 4.7 but that could be due to a backport. I've never seen _this_ bug so far (though rarely use a multiscreen setup either)

 Artifacts in kickoff when switching between tabs

 by tobaj on: Aug 3 2011

Score 50%

Kinda flickers. They always appear in bottom areas of kickoff (right above the tabs) and under the scrollbar. Confirmed with several presets and plasma themes. Revisions 1389 and earlier.

Are you aware of this? If not, I'll try to screen-dump it or better record some short vid (not easy to capture this on a single screen)

got it.
it's important to have that kickoff at the scree bottom. in a top panel it doesn't happen.

also it _is_ related to animations, i assume the window renders with some wrong offset when redirected into a pixmap. no idea. gonna investigate.

Hey
1) 'it's important to have that kickoff at the scree bottom. in a top panel it doesn't happen.'

- Well, it does on my end. Tested with the panel in three positions, take a look:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=nvtZiWTIups

I also repeated it with logging off and back on after each move of panel. No difference

2) 'also it _is_ related to animations'
- I'm not sure. Even after I disabled Switch tabs on hover in launcher settings and Various animations in Desktop Effects as well, then logged off and back in - it's still the same: switching tabs on mouse click causes the same artifacts. I've made sure the animations were disabled by [un]minimizing windows etc..

No, bespin transition settings.
You'll have to "kquitapp plasma-desktop; sleep 1; plasma-desktop" afterwards but i've identified and "fixed" the problem (unfortunately it's part of a workaround that _was_ necessary then, but is apparently not with current Qt versions. I'll do some testing and commit the fix (removing the workaround) in case it doesn't cause major regressions (like crashing applications...)

Done, and yes: with transition set to none the issue is gone. This would actually do what I needed... until you mentioned the transitions :)
I never went through all the bespin settings (really impressive amount of options - that's what KDE should be about in every aspect) so I'm not aware of many effects and tricks. Since I stepped into transitions I think I may like them if they work OK. Especially the 'scanline blend' - I'd fancy that..

I'm certainly not gonna include Xdefs.h just in order to fix it afterwards ;-)

Please try r1401 which juggles the include order in hacks.cpp to avoid the issue.
(the issue doesn't occur here, so i can unfortunately not test myself :-(
