Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

I think there is a bug with colors and bespin. It started a while back but I thought it was kwin related. Even filed a bug : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=256302.

It's not like i could reproduce it :-(

Do you compile bespin yourself?
In case, please add
#include <QtDebug>
to views.cpp:184 (above void Style::drawBranch())
and
qDebug() << bg << fg << widget;
to views.cpp:204 (right after
"if (widget)
{ bg = widget->backgroundRole(); fg = widget->foregroundRole(); }" run dolphin from konsole and dump & mail me parts of the output when the issue occurs.

This is actually very interesting, because 0/10 are QPalette::Window/Text, ie. the roles for the widget are wrong.

I could meanwhile reproduce the issue and identify the offending setting:
-> try to enable "normal" iconviews for dolphin and check whether the problem's gone.

At least on 4.5.4 i can also confirm that this only happens for "kfmclient exec", ie, clicking an icon ;-)

cool ! :)

Yes when I enable icon view the colors get back to normal. but if I start dolphin into a folder that already have icon view they are not. in kde 4.6 at least, this wasn't the behavior of 4.5 .

Thanks you for your time

no, sorry. i meant:
run "bespin config", enter the "workarounds" page, check "in Dolphin" in the '"Normal" Views' group.

Then ensure there's no running dolphin instance (ps -A | grep dolphin) and launch it - this should provide the proper colors from the beginning on (but i'll figure out what happens here and fix it for all settings ;-)

When using roxydoxy preset, i encountered a problem where all colors become black when mode is changed from "Tiled Structure" to "Plain" under windows option. This ain't occurring in versions a couple of months old.

You mean when you use the qss file?

The reason is that the window widget is not set "styled" (by default and) unless you pick a non plain bg mode (or glassy or the ring overly).

W/o this flag qss won't work "correctly" and i won't add the style flag for performance and failsafe reasons, so this will not "fix".

Keep the tiled bg mode and set the intensity to "0" - has the same visual result.

ok, looks more like the "wrong" colors are encoded into the preset than a bug.

can you "bespin export roxydoxy roxydoxy.conf" (or whatever it's called) and send/post (pastebin.com or so) me that file as well as the one you originally downloaded?

is the latter one actually the export of your stored preset? (in doubt, mail me ~/.config/Bespin/Store.conf) since it does not explain why colors should be wrong...

D'ohhh! Took me some time ;-)

a) your config is ok
b) launch "bespin config" and do it from there, i suppose there's no problem at all.

The reason is that i added color management to bespin (user request, quote "complex kde color settings suck" :-) and the cofig dialog is modal when called from systemsettings.
Since the roxydoxy preset inverts modal dialogs, the "wrong" (inverted) palette will be applied to the settings when saved and taken as the "normal" palette.

Gonna look for a way to keep the palette clean, until then - use "bespin config" instead (it's the very same dialog as standalone application, you can even spare the "config" parameter :-)

 XBar xml file

Hey!
I use bespin and xbar now for a very long time and I am more than happy with it. So first I have to say: Tank you very much!

And now my question. By default you have "Plasma" and "Customizable menu, see ...." in the XBar. When I click on the link you describe, that you can customize the menu. Therefor you have to edit the file in ~/.kde/share/apps/XBar/MainMenu.xml ... I searched my system and I didn't find this file. So do I have to create it and after the next start of my system, the XBar is customized with my settings or how can I customize it? Or do I have to edit something before I compile it? I use Arch and use the package from AUR, if this may help you. Thank you!

Best regards!

Idieally it should be sufficient to
"kwrite ~/.kde/share/apps/XBar/MainMenu.xml"
edit the file and as soon as you press the save button, the menu should be updated (but ensure you don't break the xml struture. The Qt parser is very strict. Esp. don't forget to <close/> _every_ tag)

ah, ja - sorry. the filewatcher does not watch files being not existent when added.

in general it should be sufficient to remove/add the xbar plasmoid or "kquitapp plasma-desktop; plasma-desktop" rather than restarting KDE.

However it works now :)
(I'm aware that this is not very user friendly - it's more or less a plain copy from of my personal desktop shell...)

I think its not too complicated. At the link on your site you describe, what you have to do to get and edit this menu. So I think everyone who knows a little bit about xml can create his / her own menu and thats realy great! I just asked you, because I thought I read a few months (or maybe a year ago -> time flys ;) ) that you have to create your personal menu, before you compile it and so I thought its better to ask you, before I make any bullsh** . Now it works great! :)

 change hover button effect?

"bespin config", "Button" page. Select "Toolbuttons" (2 page toolbox - unideal design...) and pick a variant.
Notice that
a) the desaturation won't work with the monochrome (black by default) bespin icons (or any other grayscale set)
b) the "KDE or Qt" variant /might/ to lead to inconsistencies between KDE and pure Qt applications (while i guess that's meanwhile covered by the platform plugin)

Sorry I should have explained more:

the issue is with active tool buttons -- not disabled ones. When I hover my mouse over an active tool button (such as the back button in Dolphin) the icon zooms in. Is there a way to change the "zoom" effect? Perhaps to a glow or something?

Thanks!

No - there's never been sth. but the zoom.
The Buttons however behave different in the connected mode - the background then performs a color fade.

 Big Button Bug

Hello,
First of all, this is the best style I've ever come across. But I see a problem which is preventing me from work. To reproduce the problem, enable bluetooth then open "Add device" or else from the taskbar bluetooth control. I only see a big button covering almost the whole window. This is only when I use bespin style.
Anyone experienced this ?

Best regards !

No, it is the default bluetooth manager for KDE4 (I'm using KDE4.6)
It's called Bluedevil.
It's working fine if I'm not using Bespin. Otherwise I see a big button as I mention earlier. Even if I maximize the window it's still unusable.
Other "bug" that I see is when I'm using KpackageKit - the description of the package which is displayed below the package list is not readable(not visible),unless I click on it, or I try to select it. It's some kind of display issue.

Ok, got it.
It's an application issue. The wizard makes certain assumptions about the button layout what is wrong (but also hardly documented -> Qt's fault ;-)

To workaround you have to uncheck the "maccish" box on the "input/System" page.

I've contacted the developer explaining the issue and how to fix it (it's "hard-broken" on OSX this way)

I assume the color thing in kpackagekit is on an inverterd background? That would be a hardcoded color (welcome to the windows user world where everything is black text on a rather bright background :-(
In this case it won't fix from here (you'll have to disable the inversion of modal dialogs) - sorry. You'll have to tell the packagekit developer to not hardcode any colors but use colorroles instead (while i'd bet it's a qss abuse)

If not, please make a screenshot (i'm not gonna install that)
