Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

 Enabling blur for KDE SC 4.5

 by Ireyon on: Jun 5 2010

Score 50%

I created a simple patch for window.cpp that enables the blur effect for KWin in KDE SC 4.5:

158a159,164
> Display *dpy = X11Info::display();
> Atom atom = XInternAtom(dpy, KDE_NET_WM_BLUR_BEHIND_REGION", False);
> QVector<unsigned long> data;
> data << widget->geometry().x() << widget->geometry().y() << widget->geometry().width() << widget->geometry().height();
> XChangeProperty(dpy, widget->winId(), atom, XA_CARDINAL, 32, PropModeReplace, reinterpret_cast<const unsigned char *>(data.constData()), data.size());

Maybe I should tell you that the lines above are a normal diff result, so apply it with patch :D

PLEASE READ!

Okay, it still seems unclear as I received a few messages related to apply the patch.

As I said, the code above is the result of a diff. Just copy the code *with* the weired numbers and *with* the > into a file (maybe window.cpp.diff) and type this in a terminal:

patch window.cpp window.cpp.diff

Then just recompile, reinstall and enjoy ;)

Hope things are clearer now.

Okay, again the code:

> Atom atom = XInternAtom(dpy, "KDE_NET_WM_BLUR_BEHIND_REGION", False);
> QVector<unsigned long> data;

Should work now

Patch was complaining about some missing ">" on line 7 (?), but I applied it manually. Also, there should be

QX11Info::display();

on the first line (with the leading Q ;)

But somehow translucency doesn't work for me at all (yep, enabled at compile time) =/

I can confirm this for 4.4, on 4.5 everything works fine. Does ist actually blur when you change the transparency manually?

Which Qt version do you use? On Arch I've got 4.7 installed (from [testing]).

Well, the transparency doesn't work at all. Wait, I do need active composite manager, right? I don't have any right now, that could be it.

Otherwise I'm on KDE 4.5 beta1 and Qt 4.7

After some valid complaints, I hope that the textbox does not eat up the necessary characters this time. Sorry for all those senseless postings above.

You'll need KDE 4.5 beta and, of course, KWin's desktop effects. But especially the blur effect is still a huge mountain of bugs.

So, here's again the code that needs to be put into a window.cpp.diff or so.

Thanks for all your messages.

rev. 1122 adds blurring support, so i suggest to remove this patch.

Thanks anyway ;-)

(the built-in solution excludes opaque window areas and only updates the region on window resizes)

 bug in bespin style

 by beojan on: Jun 13 2010

There is a bug in the bespin style which causes the second menu item in Xbar

(kate on the plasma menu, or usually Edit on application menus) to not appear.

The bug is in bespin, not xbar, since the bug does not manifest if I kquitapp plasma-desktop, then

plasma-desktop -style=oxygen
or
plasma-desktop -style=skulpture

actuallly it'S more like a conflict.
i abuse a certain property from the XBar and forgot that when trying to be extra smart during working around kdevelop issues...

fixed in rev. 1124, sorry for the trouble
(please inform me directly by mail on xbar issues as i don't use it anymore)

Hello,

I am using rev 1125 but i still observe the same behaviour; the "edit" from the application's menubar is missing.

did you restart plasma after upgrading bespin?

if menus.cpp:85 in your version contains a commented statement like
// if (mbi->menuItemType == QStyleOptionMenuItem::Separator ...

it "should" be fixed
(no guessing around. i know for sure why this statement broke it)

 Easy window dragging

 by MalleRIM on: Jun 15 2010

Score 50%

Hi,

I really like this feature, but for some apps, it does not quite work. For example, drawing in krita will make you move the window if enabled. It would be great if this could be disabled for some windows (just like transparency) or limited to the head of the window (toolbar).

i just disabled it for koffice mainwindows (rev. 1127) but actually that's a krita bug.

apparently it _actively_ promotes down the mouse event from the scrollview item (image) to the mainwindow (for no reason?!) - at least i tried to "fix" it the same way as the kcolordialog colorpatch (unsetting the flag) but that doesn't work... :-\

as oxygen has a similar feature in 4.5 (and afaik no option button ;-) this will hopefully be fixed sooner or later.

kwin window tabbing is still "broken", ie. mega crash prone. (check bugs.kde.org if you don't trust me)

so: not before it's somewhat stable and even then i'll have to hear a good reason why window tabbing is not just hype.

(i actually use it on openbox, but to tab multiple xterms only.
process protection -like in chrome- is no reason, google if you don't understand why this approach doesn't fit "normal" applications)

 Dolphin rows

 by linuxfever on: Jun 18 2010

Score 50%

Hello again,

I am using Dolphin with a listview. I have been trying to change the alternate color view using the color module from the systemsettings but the color does not change. This does not happen when using (for example) the Oxygen theme.

The only thing I could find is the Views->Alternate_Rows from bespin settings which allows me to select from a few options (text (text editor);button;highlight).

Is there a way to set the color of the alternate view to something different than the 3 options that Bespin gives me?

Also, is it normal that the color module from systemsettings does not work for bespin?

Regards

Score 50%

a) Bespin requires Qt, not KDE. So it can and does not rely on KDE features.

b) Qt (qtconfig) does not provide any way to set the alternate row (or tooltip) color

c) the (unfortunate) way KDE applies it's palette over/aside Qt breaks with the presets as well as several "color corrections" i need to apply [assume a rant here] because the support of various widgets (notably most "transparent" listviews) for anything except "dark on bright" for all of the window/button/view contexts is pretty much broken. -> Bespin catches and reverts this KDE attempt to change the palette, sorry :-(

d) for a) and b), Bespin manages the palette itself (alongside the presets) and (as a "runtime dependency") writes the palette to the KDE config when loading a preset.

Aside the "automatching" convenience, the more or less only reason for the "restricted" config for the alternate row color is to keep the color table short (ie. in a not so nice move i simply deny übercolorful setups ;-)
(and that time bespin config had no color managing tool)

the reason was that actually most of the time the blur/halo didn't extend to the icon border (and for icons, 1px can become crucial), so there's a 3x3 blurring on a 2px border ;-)

see line 97 - 102

either you grow the border
"$((sz-4))" -> "$((sz-6))"
"-border 2x2" -> "-border 3x3"

or shrink the blurring
"-blur 0x3" -> "-blur 0x2"
