Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

Hey!
It would be great if there is an option to deactivate the taskbar in XBar. I think you can copy the code from this project: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Working+around+bespin?content=120441&PHPSESSID=5b2b2009fe15e60be6aeb8897217cadf

are you using Qt packed with QtCreator or the system libraries?

Hi,

tab animations (animated transition) are already disabled.

I am using qt-copy (from the kde repo) with qt-creator from svn (1.3.1 doesn't really work here) but with relatively aggressive cflags (e.g. fast-math; Gentoo, so nearly everything is compiled from source) for many packages so you should not worry too much about this. But this is the only thing that does not work so far.

When I have some time I will rebuild qt and everything related with normale cflags to see if this helps.

btw. regardless of this I am really happy using bespin and glad that something such great exists :)

btw^2. another issue I noticed but don't know if it is solvable. When using the qt designer in combination with xbar, menus from MainWindows within the editor are also detached but are not accessible anywhere. So editing menus of windows is not possible while using xbar. I guess that best would be to just ignore those menus when possible.

humm... a better backtrace would be good then (esp. don't compile bespin with release flags) as the posted snippet contains no ref. to the bespin lib... (i'll somewhen install qtcreator to test general functionality)

> When using the qt designer in combination with xbar...

Actually I used to rule them out, but the desiner detection lately fails (different or rather no appname) -> is fixed ;-)

Compiled xbar using just:
cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug -DKDE4_BUILD_TESTS=OFF -DENABLE_XBAR=ON .
(...)

Other things I noticed:
- my cflags where not the reason
- binary qtcreator works (as expected as it uses it's own libs and not the system wide qt libraries and therefore not bespin)
- xbar may crash plasma from time to time (but this is another issue I need to observe a bit closer)

At least it does not happen by a direct bespin call then... (it's more the project explorer)

You can make the binary QtCreator using system wide Qt by moving the Qt libs shipped with it out of the way (and iirc there's even a setting which Qt to use)

I've not been using plasma for a long time, therefore the plasmoids might be outdated and cause trouble (i promised to look into this this month - hopefully will... but plasma is such a hog :-(

Stupid question - it's the creator that segfaults (runs ok, here. archlinux, system Qt) not plasma or so - is it?

Does it crash instantly or do you have to trigger it somehow? (open a file etc., it would be easier if i can make it crash here)

Well, QtCreator is some strange piece of software..

QtCreator (1.3.1, precompiled, shipped libs):
Worked until I tried with system wide libs. Now it just hangs at startup. Even completely cleaning the profile does not help when using the same qtcreator folder.

QtCreator (1.3.1, precompiled, system wide libs):
Got it to work exactly 1 time and no crash with bespin enabled. Now it just hangs during startup as it used to do, regardless if bespin is enabled or not. Removing .config/Nokia does not help. Same with a clean profile.
(so 1.3.1 is at least able to work with bespin)

QtCreator (1.3.1, self-compiled):
Never got it to start, just hangs.

QtCreator (svn):
segfault with bespin enabled (Directly when starting. Not seeing anything before).

Just one thing I can evaluate from this.. QtCreator is not very reliable for me :)
Maybe I will try this with a Qt without kde patches later.

-----

The plasma issue is completely independent from this and is not connected to QtCreator in any way. Looks like it is caused when xbar is changing (e. g. closing a window and xbar changes from showing the window menu to showing the taskbar. It is definitely plasma that crashes (big black screen and plasma starting again :) ).
But this may also be an issue with plasma that is just triggered by xbar. Can't remember a "stable" plasma version that was completely stable for me. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a reliable way to reproduce this issue. It just happens from time to time. Will post a backtrace when I get one again where the xbar lib is involved, but it did not look very useful the last time.

the segfault seems to derive from the menubar still receiving dbus signals while being deleted.

as soon as i go for the next "i fix plasmoids" session, i'll disable the taskbar default anyway in favor of an xml configurable custom menu.

any news on creator? ;-)

Currently using kdevelop4 which does the job quite well.

btw. kdevelop4 uses some kind of custom menu which bespin does not detect. Don't know if you can do anything about it but I can post a screenshot if it is of interest (sorry for mixing all the different software programs :) ).

kdevelop is explicitly blacklisted as the menubar contains a tabbar and using custom widgets via a dbus protocol is hardly possible (you'd need to care about the widgets geometry, visibility and _all_ input events as the app internally may rely on e.g. hover states)

i however need to fix the tab display ;-)

This is the best thing that happened to me since I first played around with kde 4. This somehow makes it a new experiance. Everything is better. First there is your icons. WOW. Then together with daisy: Another WOW. Then with the be-clock kwin effect: WOW. The windows and widgets styles. WOW.

This should be included into standard KDE, not default probably, but just to show what one can do.
Anyway. Again Thomas, your are a great visionnaire and artist. Keep on the good work. On amarok and KDE in general. IMHO your talents could maybe be more focused on KDE itself instead of amarok. Although i just wish your bespin work would be more into the open.

As for the icons, many credits have to go to TheRob and David Correa Vanegas, who fabricated and worked on many most of them.

it's still there, but moved.
open the window page, and enter the UNO section (that is what apple does with the top areas of their windows)
check "combined head..." but exclude toolbars and title (uncheck them)
as result only the menubar will be affected

i admit that this is somewhat obscure, sorry.
i'll seek to add a complementary option to the menu page.

simply uncheck the toolbar as well - as result only the menubar will be affected (as mentioned, that's a bit obscure, i know...)

/home/andrea/cloudcity/build/kwin/../../kwin/client.h:31:25: error: kdecoration.h: No such file or /home/andrea/cloudcity/build/kwin/../../kwin/factory.h:33:32: error: kdecorationfactory.h: No such file

the headers should be part of kdebase-dev or kdebase-worspace-dev
(and i set me a note for tomorrow to add a custom check to the cmake file... :)
