Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

Hi! I downloaded and compiled the latest SVN snapshot of Bespin on both a KDE 4.3.4 desktop and a KDE 4.4b2 desktop but when I select this theme or use any of the config files available, there appears to be some icon corruption on either KDE desktop. For example, Dolphin's file drawer icon is replaced by a generic xorg place holder icon in the taskbar and in the upper left of file manager windows. I've noticed other subtle icon corruption elsewhere. Any idea why this is occurring or how to fix this? There were no errors when compiling Bespin or installing it. I'm using Sabayon Linux (Gentoo.) Thanks!

Yes, I'm running 64Bit. Is that a problem for bespin?

usually not, but i set some window properties and thought they might overflow and override others (though this should actually not happen at all)
can you please
xprop | grep -i icon
click a window with broken icon and post the output?

thanks (some of the properties are really important ;-)

Thanks for trying to troubleshoot this! Here's the output of the xprop command:

cmost@cmost-sabayon64 ~ $ xprop | grep -i icon
_NET_WM_ICON_GEOMETRY(CARDINAL) = 514, 1009, 51, 43
icon window: 0x0

humm, ok: there's no icon ;-)
do you compile yourself and can you replace
_n /= (type == XProperty::LONG) ? 8*sizeof(long int) : (uint)type;

with

_n /= (uint)type;

in blib/xproperty.h:79 ?

(could be CARD32 is _really_ 32 bits - on all archs...)

Hey, thanks! I kind of suspected something like this! I do compile myself from source so I can make the change you suggest. I hate to trouble you, but can you be more specific on where to make the change in 'Cloudcity' directory before I compile? Also, will this be fixed in an upcoming snapshot? Thanks!! :-)

jsut in case: dolphin, konqueror & konsole make bad testcases, as they try to keep an instance running and the default launchers won't start a new one, but just open a new window.

nevertheless the first thing should be to figure whether this is driven by bespins property settings at all.

therefore in xproperty.h
1) revert your rencent changes
2) add "return;" (w/o the quotes) between lines 67 and 67 (after the '{' so that the function returns immediately)

and in xproperty.cpp add "return;" between lines 57 and 58 (after the '{' afs well, so that the ::remove() function returns immediately

thanks for testing

Okay, made those changes exactly as you requested:

Now I get an error when trying to compile:

cmost@cmost-sabayon64 ~/Downloads/KDE-Look/themes/Qt/Bespin/cloudcity/build $ make
[ 1%] Building CXX object blib/CMakeFiles/QtBespin.dir/xproperty.o

Did I add the "return;" statements incorrectly somehow? I simply inserted them after the "{" but right in line with the next lines, in both cases. I warn you, I haven't programmed since the days of BASIC! :-)

blib/xporperty.h, line 79 (it's just that one line :-)

If this is it, i'll fix it as soon as i've your confirmation (maybe gg a bit harder on X11 data types ;-) and push it to svn immediately.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Duh! :-) I made the change to the aforementioned file and reconfigured. Activated Bespin and...sadly, no change. Here's the output of the xprop command after the change was made:

build $ xprop | grep -i icon
_NET_WM_ICON_GEOMETRY(CARDINAL) = 562, 1010, 50, 42
icon window: 0x0

Any other ideas? Thanks for the assist!

I was initially looking for something with which I could emulate a MacOS system. After installing Bespin (which Thomas ever-so-kindly taught me how to do from the ground, up), I decided I would center my whole system around the beautiful cloud city. Thank you so much for a wonderful product! *****

 SVN 962

Hello Thomas,
there are some glitches, when using rev. 962, although I think they came up earlier.
In text boxes (like rename over context menu in dolphin) is no edit cursor visible.
In system settings the single click isn't honoured. You have to double-click to open an item.
Same in amarok(-GIT): dragging an album to the playlist marks all tracks and you have to double-click to start playback.
I've changed the style to skulpture temporarly and there those issues disappear.

I'm on openSUSE 11.2
KDE 4.3.4 with Qt 4.6.0
Plasma-theme is Ghost, windeco skulpture

i know about the i-beam bug (qt4.6 thing, why only some lineedits are affected, i don't know)

if you take a close look, you'll notice that it keeps blinking in skulpture and other "working" styles (winblows mode) whereas i flagged this off.

i changed the flag in r963 to workaround this, but that's no good solution :-(

as for systemsettings/amarok:
please notice that bespin still handles the singleclick behaviour through the "behave maccish" option (Qt does not interpret the kde setting before 4.6 and i've yet not made my mind on how to "merge" this smoothly - i don't want to delete the setting in regard of non-kde environments)

other than this i do not experience any of this (despite having to dbl.click an amarok playlist entry, but that's common - single clicking just selects it)

(but i think i recall trouble on some iconview checking for kstyle inheritance and applying custom behaviour internally otherwise - not saying that this is the case here)

Please also notice that the kde 4.3 / Qt 4.6 combination is not officially supported and iirc there're reported issues far worse, e.g. making X suck away RAM on pointer shape changes... :-\

 Qt 4.6

by beojan on: Jan 9 2010

Score 50%

Slightly off the topic, but previously, bespins ability to show KDE dialogs in Pure Qt applications was removed due to errors with certain applications, and it was said that QT 4.6 could call KIO.

a) Does this mean that Qt 4.6 will show KDE dialogs, or simply that it can open files through kio (and in this case, transparantly or the application developer has to enable support)
b) In the first case, is this supposed to work with KDE SC 4.3, or only 4.4 as it doesn't in my 4.3

kio isn't directly related to the dialogs, but yes:
qt apps (using the static qmessagebox functions, other's are not overridable) now show the kde dialogs and qt should use kio as plugin (under the hood and in general i think, i've never really tested and just believe ;-)

this works since Qt4.6 (at least from kde-qt git clone, iirc not in the beta and i don't know about vanilla Qt, but it was promoted as feature) and _only_ in full kde sessions ("env | grep -i session")

this _should_ be independent from the kde version, but ive never tested w/o the 4.4 branch - so i don't know

 2 bugs I want fixed!!

This is no doubt a great theme, but there's a very major bug in it. When using this theme with Compiz-Fusion and Compiz-KDE (so you can use KWin themes like this one with Compiz, really awesome), the Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons DO NOT function at all, AND there's a small graphical glitch on the titlebar unless "Ignore style hints from the (Bespin) widget style" is disabled. Also, right below the window buttons (minimize, etc), there's a small glitch about 5 pixels long that cuts down, or into the window, and disabling that feature doesn't fix the glitch. Small problems, but I'd be forever grateful if they were fixed, so I can use this awesome KWin style with KDE and Compiz-Fusion!
