Description:

Skulpture is a GUI style addon for KDE programs. It features a classical three dimensional artwork with shadows and smooth gradients to enhance the visual experience.

Skulpture has been designed to be light and easy on eyes; many distracting borders or graphical elements have been removed or replaced by simpler artwork. See NOTES and README for additional information.

Skulpture is released as source code under the GNU GPL version 3 license; see INSTALL for installation instructions and COPYING for additional information.

Gentoo build kindly provided by Franz Fellner, Thanks! For binary packages, please check with your distribution.

 I love it

Finally something new and beautiful. I think this should be the default for KDE 4.2.

Oxygen makes great icons, but honestly, when you compare the oxygen window decorations and style to apple/vista it just doesn't match up. This is gorgeous, i love the animation, and i love how the progress bars start out in the middle. this is great!

I am very glad that you like Skulpture, sparxxxie, but the majority of users would like to keep Oxygen as default style.

 multiple snapshots?

i'm a little confused.
are there two snapshots? 1.3.5 and 1.9.12 (from your webpage)?

You are right, DonVla, there are currently two branches:

* 0.1 branch has 0.1.3.5 snapshot for an eventual 0.1.4 release,
* 0.2 branch has 0.1.9.16 snapshot, approaching a 0.2.0 release.

Since it will take some time until 0.2 is stable, I will keep maintaining a 0.1 stable branch. This development model may be confusing, but it has its advantages.

Both snapshots are provided without any testing, but you are free to try them and report bugs and/or suggestions. To the 0.1 branch only fixes (security, stability, usability) are applied, though.

 Scrollbars in Firefox

by SeaJey on: Oct 7 2008

I am having some troubles with horizontal scrollbar (and much more rarely with vertical) in Firefox using gtg-qt-engine-kde4 and Sculpture style, screenshot: http://ipicture.ru/Gallery/Viewfull/7539436.html

There was no such glitches with Oxygen :(

The style bridge engine probably has problems with scrollbars covering the arrows. Report that bug to the GTK-Qt4 authors, and in the meantime disable that option in the Skulpture configuration dialog. Disabling does not work in 0.1.9 snapshots, you need 0.1.3 stable version.

SeaJey, there should be a style configuration dialog (the button next to the combobox in systemsettings, where you selected Skulpture style). If there is not, you did not compile with KDE extensions.

 Thanks + Gentoo Ebuild

Thanks for such a beatiful style, love it!
I noticed you already released a new version here http://skulpture.maxiom.de/ (oops, sorry to spoil ;-)) so I made an experimental Gentoo Ebuild http://files.kucrut.org/ebuild/x11-themes/skulpture/skulpture-0.1.9.20.ebuild (you can add it to your download section if you want to skulptor). Gentoo folks, use at your own risk! :P

Thanks kucrut, just remember that the version of the snapshot changes frequently, so your ebuild will soon fail to fetch the source.

That's OK, it's just an experimental ebuild anyway (as i couldnt wait for the stable one).
Oh, if you dont mind me asking, is it skulpture or GTK Engines QT that's causing some GTK apps (firefox and easytag in my case) fail to launch if called from kde menu but not from an x-term? Didn't have this problem before using skulpture, but i'm not really sure... Or maybe it's kde? ;-)

Some versions of the GTK+ bridge cannot handle zero-sized scroll buttons, so you may need to disable the option in Skulpture that allows the scroll bar to cover the arrows. Disabling only works with 0.1.3, but not the 0.1.9 snapshots.

Hey, just finished updating the Kubuntu packages to 0.2.0 in the PPA. Give them a couple of hours to build and get put into the archives. Enjoy! I know I am :)

Fantastic, 0.2.0 really brings great improvements. I just want to note two things:

1. The icons in System Settings are a few px too big and looks washy. That does not look beautiful.

2. The Dolphin Bar that shows the used disk-space is still in green colour, PLEASE PLEASE make them in the same color as the progressbar.

Hi goona, always on the bleeding edge :)

Regarding the icons, the idea was to test which applications use hard coded sizes, and which allow truly scalable icons. I don't know for sure why, KDE 4 ships SVG icons, but for some reason it still uses the PNG bitmaps, so they look blurry when scaled.

You can replace line 5179 with "return 32;" (or value 22, 48, or 64) to get sharp icons. I will add a configuration option in an update, if KDE 4.2 still does not use the SVG files.

About the coloring of the disk space gauge: You should be alarmed when the color gets red :) Okey, fun aside, you can disable the coloring by replacing line 6821 with "return false;" in skulpture.cpp source.

Hope that helps to solve your issues.

rendering (complex) svg is pretty slow (ok, could be catched cahing)
and (most important): QtSvg doesn't support (most?) inkscape additions to svg...
(also i think the oxygen team postpolishes the bitmaps)

Thanks for the clarification, Thomas. My impression was that KPixmapCache and its huge files in /var/tmp/ were actually used for the scaled icons.

it is (partially) but stores scaled images -> remains blurry

i think shdadow support is somewhat upon us, so sooner or later we'll (maybe) use svgs - still rendering a svg is (under icon conditions, small but complex) /ways/ faster than scaling an image
