Description:

Comix flat style for KDE 3.2+.

I hope this adds a little more fun to your desktop.
Thanks to all the authors of previous styles published for KDE. Please read AUTHORS, README and TODO.

Use the styles configuration button to overwrite the contour drawing color.
Use KDEs ControlCenter "Colors" dialog to adjust buttons- and highlight-color as well as the contrast.
Use kcontrols window decoration config-dialog to adjust title alignment and border width.

Also check the corresponding cursor theme at: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=32627

 Some stuff

by dolio on: Oct 9 2004

Score 50%

This style doesn't seem to draw the toolbar line separators new in KDE 3.3. Did you decide they didn't fit with this style, or is it just an oversight (I don't know if they'd look right or not, but I've gotten used to them, and like them in other styles)?

Also, it'd be nice if we could turn off the focus rectangle on buttons (which looks bad) but still have the rubber-band effect when selecting files in Konqueror. I don't know how hard doing so is, so don't trouble yourself too much with it if it isn't feasible.

As always, this is a great style, and you're doing excellent work.

Hi dolio, there is a configuration dialog for the style, which looks like my third screenshot. You can activate drawing the toolbar separator with the first and disable the focus rectangle with the third checkbox.
I'm afraid i don't know about a rubber-band effect in konqueror. When would this happen?
There is a little glitch in konqueror "Location:" background, so i will upoad a fix in a few hours.
Aloha

We're talking about different toolbar separators. That box draws a separator between separate toolbars. The separators I'm talking about draws lines between buttons on the toolbar. Those never get drawn in this theme.

and disable the focus rectangle with the third checkbox.

:) Yeah, I know about that. The problem is that it simultaneously disables the rubber-band effect.

I'm afraid i don't know about a rubber-band effect in konqueror. When would this happen?

The rubber band happens when you click on a blank area, and drag the mouse. A thinly painted line that looks a lot like the focus rectangle (it's XOR painted the same way, I believe) appears with corners where you clicked and where the mouse is, and when that rectangle overlaps an icon, that icon gets selected.

Right now, with the focus rectangle hidden, when you select multiple icons, there's no such rectangle to indicate which icons will be selected.

I'll upload a screen shot of Plastik with the tool bar separators I'm talking about to give you an idea. It will appear at http://dolio.cwru.edu/users/dolio/separator.png

Again, thanks for all your work.

Sorry to reply again, but I just noticed that my response to your response is hidden by default, and you need to enable level '3' or 'all' threads to see it.

My apologies for being such a pain in your side. :)

Hi dolio,
no worries, i am happy about any comment to improve comix.
I will make shure that vertical separators will be drawn with that checkbox too, and that selector rectangle will be drawn regardless of the checkbox (while dragging or somthing).

 colors / window-dec

Hi,

nice style - just installed 1.1.2. But the color-schemes in the package didn't appear in the scheme chooser (I didn't try to find the error - so it could be something very stupid on my side; just wanted to mention).

What window-decoration are you using? That looks interessting.

Thanks

Hi,
it is no color scheme included. Just change the color you like in kcontrol:Appearance & Style:Colors. And try the contrast slider to adjust the buttons bevel height.

 hang up

Hi,

when using this style, kile keeps hanging up. The program is still running and you can resize the window. But it no longer accept any mouse input or keyboard input. Other programs are still working - with another style kile never hangs.

hi meyerm,
i was not able to reproduce this by now. It might be a custom draw routine that loops. Can you please give me some more information about:
- version of comix, kile, kde, distro?
- any crash reports available?
Thanks

Hi,

Yeah, me neither. It just happens from time to time. Perhaps it is just the carma of my GF? ;-)

1.1.2

1.6.3

3.2.1

> distro?
Gentoo, no special optimisations.

> any crash reports available?
Nope - that's the problem. The program itself doesn't "crash". I can resize the window and it is still redrawn correctly. Just the input is stuck. Next time I will try some DCOP calls.

I wanted to update the computer nonetheless with KDE 3.3.1 - perhaps the problem will vanish? (But after my exams in october)

Whoops, I should mention that this happens on her computer when she is using Kile... (That's why I also don't know what exactly was done before the hang up - despite of "Nothing!" ;-) ).

What do you think about possibility to hide the toolbar handles, at least into the background?

Nice style anyway, has been my default for sometime now :)

Hi tpr,
i don't know ... i guess i think it is not a good idea. And they look quite smooth in comix - for example in konqueror. Is it worth an option?
Thanks for your contribution to keep KDE as clean as possible anyway.

Yep, they look smooth indeed, but as I don't have any use for them, I'd like to hide them. Anyways, maybe this should be done globally in kdelibs/kdeui's kstyle stuff...

Thanks for the answer, and the style, anyway.

 no smooth

I just compiled 1.1.4
The lines are quite jagged or pixelated. Is there an option make the lines smooth like in the screenshot? Or does this have to do with the speed improvement?
