Description:

Oxygen style and decoration with support for transparency (see screenshots).

This is an official branch of the KDE oxygen style. It is kept in sync with the official oxygen style, and adds support of full transparency on the windows.

The style and the decoration are named "Oxygen Transparent" and appear as such in KDE's system settings (in both the applications and workspace appearance pages).

A configuration helper application is included with the style that allows one to configure both the style and the decoration in the same window. It is called oxygen-transparent-settings.

The provided script, named oxygen-setup.pl is used to:

- get the sources (from git)
- configure them
- compile and install the window decoration and widget style.

important notes

1/ The style (and decoration) should work for recent enough versions of KDE4.

Different versions (branches) must be used depending on your KDE version:

- the KDE/4.8 version works with KDE/4.8 (tested), and possibly some earlier verions (not tested)

- the KDE/4.9 version works with KDE/4.9 (tested)

- the master version works with latest KDE, compiled from git. It may not work with any earlier KDE release.

New versions will be added (KDE/4.10, etc.) when the corresponding KDE4 version is out.

One can switch between branches by running the script and specifying the relevant branch:

Quote:
oxygen-setup.pl --branch KDE/4.8
oxygen-setup.pl --branch KDE/4.9
oxygen-setup.pl --branch master

By default (when no branch is specified), the master branch is used.

There is a number of additional options available for the setup script. To get a list of them, type:
Quote:
./oxygen-setup.pl --help

2/ Since March 4th 2011, oxygen-transparent has moved to git.

The project home page is:

https://projects.kde.org/projects/playground/artwork/oxygen-transparent

You can get the sources directly using:

Quote:
git clone git://anongit.kde.org/oxygen-transparent

3/ KDE development packages are needed for the compilation to succeed (see below)

Feedback highly appreciated either here on on IRC, #oxygen. (ping hpereira, or hugo)

Downloads

There are automatic builds linked in the download section which have been provided by others (thanks !).

Only the first download (the script) is maintained by me, it always provide the latest svn version of the code.

Needed packages for installation/compilation

(thanks to MezzeForte for providing the list):

- gcc-c++
- git
- cmake
- kdebase-workspace-dev
- libxrender-dev
- libx11-dev

- Depending on the distribution you have the name of the packages might change a bit

- there are usually more packages needed by the packages above and installed via dependency.

For instance,

Quote:
sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake kdelibs5-dev kdebase-workspace-dev libxrender-dev libx11-dev git

should work on recent enough Ubuntu (thanks to Antelmo for posting. See page5).

Bugs:

Even though oxygen-transparent is not officially part of KDE you can report bugs to https://bugs.kde.org.
You would need to select Oxygen as a product, and Style as a component.

Make sure that "Oxygen-Transparent" appears in the bug title so that it does not get confused with official oxygen bugs.

Posting bug reports at bugs.kde.org is highly recommended rather than posting comments on this page, as it makes my life much easier at bookkeeping.

Changelog:

7f0a6013:
- synchronized with latest oxygen
- created KDE/4.10 branch
- Warning: if you are using the "master" branch (which targets KDE/4.11), you will have conflicts with oxygen (@KDE) configuration, unless you are also using kde from git repositories
This is due to backward incompatible changes in the configuration code.

83a46b6c:
- attempt at fixing bug concerning window positionning on screen for multi-screen setup
- changes in version policy. New available branches are KDE/4.8, KDE/4.9, and master. KDE/4.10 branch will be added as soon as the corresponding KDE4 version is released. The "stable" branch has been removed.

731ce67e:
- synchronized with oxygen (KDE/4.9)
- fixed crash at exit for virtually all KDE applications

d7bb65f0:
- synchronized with oxygen
- use icon from icon theme for tab-close button
- updated install script to deal with master and stable branch

7a121e2:
- synchronized with oxygen
- fixed compilation issues with too old versions of KDE

 Crashes kwin

Hi,

I've had success with this in the past but this version (and the last two or three versions) repeatedly crashes kwin if I select both the theme and window decoration. Just the window decoration on it's own (with another style) is ok.

How can I collect some useful information to give you so the problem can be identified and solved?

I am using Pardus 2009.2 with KDE 4.4.5.

Hey. You made a piece of great job. To help You develope I wonna submit you few bugs.
1. After rolling (dobule LMB o title window) the window the blur effect remain where was.
2. There is no video preview in dolphin window.[I think there is problem with dolphin, not with the Yours theme.]
3. When I split the dolphin window the blur effect is only on one part on window- on the firs. When I switch to the second part of window, there is no blur effect. Only transparent.

Hello,

1/ is known and is a kwin bug, not oxygen.
Also happens with QtCurve and bespin

2/ is known issue with transparency and needs fix upstream. It also applies to most video viewer, and is one of the technical reasons why transparency will not go into kde's official sources.

There is already some comments about it in previous pages. (that's why its actually better to file bug reports on kde rather than post them here).

3/ definitely one bug of ours. Will see if I can fix.

Hey. Now I remembered that a similar problem was with cairo-dock. After installing the dock, no application plays the video does not work properly-Where supose to be a video was a blank transparent window, here's a solution to this problem: http://smplayer.berlios.de/forums/viewtopic.php?id=979

[code]
Helped me. The following solution handles arguments too:

Code:

sudo bash -c "cat > /usr/bin/smplayer.helper" <<EOF
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
exec smplayer.real "\$@"
EOF

sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/smplayer.helper
sudo mv /usr/bin/smplayer{,.real}
sudo ln -sf smplayer.helper /usr/bin/smplayer

just cut'n'paste it in to a terminal (assuming you have suitable sudoers permission). You'll need to re-run the last line when smplayer is updated (if it is still exhibiting the symptoms).[/code]

maybe something similar will solve our problems with dolphin, smplayer, and others.I will try.
Best regards

Hello,

Full window transparency is handled by kwin, not by oxygen (see how its working whatever style you use).

So it would need to handle blur itself, not us, since we know nothing about it.

I've built this, installed it and it has hard locked my computer 3 times in the last hour when I click on panel tasks.

I thought it may be some kind of conflict with smooth tasks so I switched back to the normal KDE task widget but still the same problem.

Seems to be associated with either tooltips popping up over the taskbar or smooth tasks preview option.

This is with the ATi fglrx driver. It looks fantastic and I hope you continue to stablize your code.

Just a follow up it appears I needed to tinker with my desktop effects settings which seems to have stopped the lockups but will test a bit more. Thanks again for your work on this code.

I really like this style. The Oxygen theme had already improved a lot, but this transparent theme is amazingly beautiful. I would definitely have liked it if this was the new oxygen standard in KDE 4.6. (Without the bugs of course :D). I hope this theme is standard in the future of KDE...

 dont work with

 by masterdany88 on: Mar 22 2011

Hello.
I am using Your theme for a few weeks, and I think it is great. I hope it will be used as default theme in kde. So I will wait.
For now I would like to submit few observations of mine:
1. In konqueror on bottom panel isnt blured .
2. The theme works with skype after choosing "oxygen transparent", but when i restart skype or kde or computer, there is no transparently. I have to manually select back again oxygen (or each other) and then set "oxygen transparent" to get transparent until next restart.
3. Offen I loose tranparently (the windows looks like in oxygen theme) in others app like kadu.
4. There is no transparent in apps like: acetoneiso
5. IT IS GREAT THAT THE TRANSPERENCY WORK WITH AMAROK. EVEN WHEN I PLAY VIDEO I GOT WORKING TRANSPARENCY WITH BLUR AND THE WINDOW WITH VIDEO IS VISIBLE
Maybe other apps will work that way.

Best regard (once more) :D

Seems from this report and others
- that there is interest (cool!)
- that I need some serious debug session on oxygen-transparent.

Please be patient, these days been quite busy with oxygen-gtk.

Well, as far as I can tell, its because WICD is _not_ a Qt application, but a gtk one.

Doesn't use oxygen-transparent as a style.
