 rip-off

It is a rip-off anyway. Is it so difficult to modify before when you steal ideas? An altered version of this can be a true good style but like this it is just a rip-off.

what do you mean rip-off???

this is a port of the nvidia windeco...
nVidia is quite strong on linux (X to be precise, well - at least in matters of 3D), so i don't see why they shouldn't be as present as on window$.
maybe they rather see this as quite good PR (they earn their money by selling and licensing GPUs - not by windecos, you know?)

- do you work for nVidia?
- do you speak in their name?
- if not: where do you want to know about their opinion on this...?!?

if you're an artist and feel the design presented here is insufficient for the great KDE, why don't you share your artificial talent with the rest of us?

if you don't feel able to realize your ideas due to a lack of cpp or other skills:
NO MATTER!
I'm pretty much sure someone will be found to help you bringing your art onto the screen.

If you're just here to troll around:
please move back to the heise.de userfore - some guys here try to work.

Thanks

ps: if you're really just a troll - don't hope to start a discussion with me - i simply won't notice

 Resize the configure

by imr on: Jul 22 2004

Please redo the configuration dialog. It doesnt fit my 1024x768 screen. Most people are still in 800x600 or 1024x768, and 14 pouces are still around.
Please, this is an important issue, too often neglicted by free software designers.

this config is _really_ big (even to me :)
fo a quick solution:
try pressing the alt key, click somewhere in the window and move it around freely

Also, it breaks the KDE UI guidelines, which clearly states that a dialog must be able to show on a 640x480 screen when run outside of the KDE environment, and on an 800x600 screen when used inside KDE.

Otherwise, this looks good :) Keep it up!

cool work!!! this I didnt expect ;-) nice done. but I'd like to ask if you fixed the maximize behaviour eg do the windows now realy maximize if not set to "enable resize on maximized windows" (like plastik does, and all windows windecs do)?

and btw its nice work, but I just think about it - ehm is such a theme really usefull? can't you maybe better put this code (in time, in time...) into Kwin itself so its easier to create themes or something like that? now its one windec that can look like a dozen others. thats quite strange (this is a strange thing with all super-configurable windecs and styles: the aren't really one style, but several. while I like configurabillity, well... hmm, its just strange. not meant to discourage you, btw. just a thought...

We've already got another pixmap engine for kwin themes called IceWM :) But this seems to be going in a slightly different direction :) A programmed engine (i.e. no pixmaps) is potentially a lot faster, since it doesn't have to load pixmaps and such, and less memory heavy, since it doesn't have to cache the pixmaps it didn't load in the first place. Of course, the pixmap themes have their place (they often have a lot more eyecandy going on, as is clearly visible on the NVidia deco here :) ).

So, there we go :) That's why it should not go into KWin directly ;)

my final idea with akdc is give to graphical designers like everaldo an super adaptable[akdc works with the same code a theme really simple like quartz or another extremely complex like corona or nvidia, impressive right] kwin native decoration core, so the graphical designer just paste some pixmaps in a folder, set some options and that's it, he has a kwin native theme.

the big thing about this work is that the code make all c++ work automatically[layout calculation, mask calculation, kparts integration, configuration module[i have to rewrite it from the scratch], effects, and all other features], in a memory efficient
way and faster as possible, in fact with the latest code akdc demonstrate be faster than keramik in almost all situations.

so i hope you like it and this help to convert kde in a awesome a piece of art
