Description:

NEW VERSION!

I based this one off of Alloy, which is why it's called Alloyon. After the rewrite, it hasn't got much to do with Alloy anymore, except for the pixmaps used for the buttons in the corners of the windows.

If you experience problems with this windec, feel free to contact me.

[ NOTICE ]
If you experience problems with compilation, do one of the following:
- Upgrade Qt to 3.3.x
- Change all occurences of "3.3" to "3.2" in alloyonclient/config/configdialog.ui.

Yours,
Simon Ask Ulsnes

Changelog:

0.2:
- Complete rewrite
- New button painting code (for more Plastik-like buttons)
- New configuration options:
Titlebar size
Button sizes
Titlebar shadow distance
Whether or not to draw the close button in ugly red

0.1.1:
- One bug fix (drawing error in the titlebar).

0.1:
- Initial release, fletched from Alloy (really just a modification/ugly hack).

Do you have a qt-3.2.* version?

usr/lib/qt-3.2.3/bin/uic -L /opt/kde/lib/kde3/plugins/designer -nounload -o configdialog.h ./configdialog.ui
uic: File generated with too recent version of Qt Designer (3.3 vs. 3.2.3)

 Compilation problems

by Cosine on: Mar 7 2004

It seems that some people have trouble compiling on certain systems. The windec was written/tested on my configuration, which is the following:

KDE 3.2
Qt 3.3.1
GCC 3.3.3
GLIBC 2.3.3
Gentoo Linux

I don't know much about those kinds of errors, so I hope someone else can give advice.

The Qt 3.2/3.3 incompatibility should, however, not be an issue, as the UI-file is taken directly from the original Alloy theme (it's for the configuration KCM). The solution is to either upgrade Qt (recommendable) or copy the .ui-file from the Alloy package. YMMV.

Of course, I hope you get it working - if I'm not answering here, feel free to mail me.

 here is the fix...

enter the following directory "/alloyon/alloyonclient/config" and open this file: configdialog.ui

At the top of the document you will see this line: "DOCTYPE UI UI version="3.3" stdsetdef="1"

Change where it says version="3.3" to version="3.2" and then save the file and run make...

Thats what worked for me...

Hope that helps..!

I really like this windeco - it may actually tear me away from Plastik! One tiny snag, though, which is visible here: http://greenfs.mine.nu/~zack/kde3.png

Great work!

the only thing I am missing is the ability to configure the height of the title bar.

I don't like the huge title bars as these are just a waste of space IMO.

As soon as Alloyon is able to reduce the size of the title bar I will definitely use it.

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

Yeah, I get your point. However, the structure of the original Alloy is very strict regarding sizes and so on, so the whole source has to be refactored and rewritten if such a feature was to be implemented.

On my screen, the titlebars weren't that thick because I'm running 1600x1200 (in which large titlebars are a blessing if you want to hit them with the cursor).

But I've planned a total rewrite one of these days, and I will of course make this configurable at that time.
